# Getting Started

> Install the packaged Nuanced desktop app and start your first spec.

## Install The App

Nuanced is shipped as a packaged desktop app for macOS.

1. Download the latest Nuanced release.
2. Open the `.dmg`.
3. Drag `Nuanced` into `Applications`.
4. Launch `Nuanced` from `Applications`.

## Sign In With GitHub

When you open Nuanced for the first time, the app prompts you to sign in with GitHub.

1. Click `Sign in with GitHub`.
2. Nuanced opens your browser to the GitHub sign-in flow.
3. Finish authentication in the browser.
4. The browser hands control back to the desktop app automatically.

## Add A Workspace

After signing in, choose the local project you want to work in.

* A workspace is the local folder or repository Nuanced should operate against.
* Workspaces appear in the left sidebar.
* If you start chatting before selecting one, Nuanced prompts you to choose a workspace for the spec.

## Start Your First Spec

Nuanced is built around specs: working documents that sit alongside the conversation.

1. Select a workspace.
2. Start from the main prompt asking what you are building.
3. Send your request.
4. Nuanced creates or opens a spec for that workspace and keeps the conversation tied to it.

This is the core packaged-app workflow: choose a workspace, describe the change, and continue refining the related spec from the desktop app.

## Updates

Nuanced checks for updates in the background when you are using the app. When an update has finished downloading, the app surfaces an `Update` action in the window header so you can install it.
